Menora, is a folk dance once popular in East Coast of Malaysia. It originated from the southern areas of Thailand i.e. Songkhla, Patthalung. The movements and storyline of the dance is derrived from the tales of Jātaka.
Jātaka, refers to the reincarnations of the Buddha, of which, was the prevailing religion of the Malay Peninsular before the 13th century.
This is a dying art in Malaysia as it no longer attracts crowds, and due to the it is buddhist roots makes it even more difficult to be affiliated with the more rigid Muslims.
